Not all international students have the financial ability or the desire to study abroad. With that in mind, NWSS has created a unique opportunity for groups of international students from the same school to participate in a distance-mentoring program providing leadership and character training. Through this program, participating students will gain skills that will set them apart from their peers and distinguish them as leaders for the 21st century!

The admissions departments of Harvard, Yale, and Princeton all recognize the need for character and leadership and include these as factors in their admissions decisions, in addition to academic achievement.

From Harvard University's website

“There is no formula for gaining admission to Harvard. Academic accomplishment in high school is important, but the Admissions Committee also considers many other criteria, such as community involvement, leadership...We rely on teachers, counselors, headmasters, and alumni/ae to share information with us about applicants' strength of character, their ability to overcome adversity, and other personal qualities--all of which play a part in the Admissions Committee's decisions.”

Former Yale President Kingman Brewster

“We have to make the hunchy judgment as to whether or not with Yale’s help the candidate is likely to be a leader in whatever he [or she] ends up doing.”

From Princeton University's admissions

“We look for students who stand out academically, make the most of the opportunities available to them, show promising leadership skills and strength of character...”
